Foresight Vision Weekend 2007: The Unconference

At Yahoo! HQ in Silicon Valley

November 3-4, 2007

Registration Information

ONLINE REGISTRATION IS CLOSED

Please phone Alicia Isaac at +1 (650) 289 0860 ext 254 to see if anyone else can be squeezed in.

No on-site registration — you must pre-register to attend.

Meeting Location

The Unconference is being held at:

Yahoo Headquarters
701 First Ave (just west of N. Mathilda Ave.)
Sunnyvale, CA 94089

MAP

You will see Yahoo building D clearly labeled on the northwest corner of this intersection. Enter the driveway just to its left; the Yahoo staffer there will direct you to the parking garage (if you are driving) or the door to Building C (if you are walking).

If driving, proceed to the parking garage and park on the THIRD FLOOR; proceed through the internal door on that garage level to the SECOND FLOOR of Building C. There should be signs to assist you.

If walking, follow the staffer's directions forward, past the left side of building D, into the door on the Building C at the far left corner. Proceed to the SECOND FLOOR.

NOTE: No on-site registration: you must register in advance.

Lodging

A discounted room rate of $89 per night plus tax has been negotiated for Vision Weekend participants at:

Sheraton Sunnyvale Hotel
1100 North Mathilda Ave
Sunnyvale, CA 94089
tel +1 (408) 745-6000
fax +1 (408) 734-8276
http://www.starwoodmeeting.com/Book/foresight

To make a reservation at this special rate, please use the web page prepared by the hotel for our use: http://www.starwoodmeeting.com/Book/foresight

To reach the Unconference site, Yahoo HQ, from the hotel, walk or drive 0.9 miles north on Mathilda Ave — four long blocks — to the corner of 1st Street. If you reach Caribbean Drive, you have gone too far. OR, if staying at the Sheraton, the hotel shuttle can take you to Yahoo, based on availability.

Other Sunnyvale lodging options include Vagabond Inn, Sundowner Inn, and Staybridge Suites, but we encourage you to stay at the Sheraton if you can, to maximize interaction with other participants.

Parking

We will be parking in the Yahoo campus parking garage on the THIRD FLOOR, which has an internal door opening directly into the SECOND FLOOR of Building C. The Yahoo staffer at the driveway entrance will direct you; there should also be signs.

Airports

Silicon Valley is served by the three Bay Area airports. Here are approximate distances to Sunnyvale:

San Jose (SJC), 10 miles. Free hotel shuttle based on availability, or taxi.

San Francisco (SFO), 28 miles. SuperShuttle $35 one way. No reservations needed to hotel; reserve well in advance to return to airport.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS from San Jose (SJC) or from San Francisco (SFO)
http://www.svwebbuilder.com/page/Yahoo+Building+C+Map?t=anon

Or ride BART to Caltrain (transfer at Millbrae station), take Caltrain to the Sunnyvale station, and — if staying at the Sheraton — phone for the hotel's free shuttle.

Oakland (OAK), 35 miles. We have not found a good shuttle rate yet from Oakland. A Best Shuttle quotes $55-65 one way, but discount airfares into Oakland can be low enough to make this worth considering.

Public Transportation

The nearest train station is 2.9 miles south of the conference hotel. The Sheraton has a free shuttle that will pick their guests up, based on availability:

Sunnyvale Caltrain Station
199 W Evelyn Ave (sometimes listed as 121 W Evelyn Ave)
Sunnyvale, CA 94526
http://www.caltrain.com/caltrain_stations.html

The Yahoo campus is also accessible by VTA light rail; go to the Lockheed Martin stop and head north one or two blocks. However, we've been told this method is slow and inconvenient. Here's a system map:http://www.vta.org/schedules/lr_interactive_map/lrBusMap.html.

Blogging & recording

Wireless should be available in most or all of the facility. Blogging is encouraged.

Video or audio recording requires advance signed permission from all participants being recorded.

Participants are responsible for keeping an eye on their own laptops and equipment.

Program content

Foresight reserves the right to change presenters and topics, based on presenter availability, etc. At an unconference, participants determine the program in real time, so flexibility is expected.

Cancellations & Substitutions

Cancellations may be made until Friday, Nov. 2 at 5 PM, for a $25 cancellation fee. Substitutions may be made until Saturday, Nov. 3 at 10 AM, at no charge.
