Three days of nanotechnology bootcamp

If you’re interested in dipping your toe into academic nanotechnology but don’t have time to go back to school, consider the ASME Nano Training Bootcamp this September. It’s mostly top-down, but includes some bottom-up nanotech such as self-assembly and useful tools such as scanning probes. In addition to the lectures at Santa Clara, you’ll get to tour some nano labs at Stanford:

Highlights include:
• Group lecture on how NNIN supports nano-science & technology [link added]
• Examples of various research projects done at NNIN, focusing on how the devices are made
• Window tours of the two labs
• Clean room tours and demos

Hands-on work would be better, but that would be hard to fit into a three-day course. Someone at ASME is focused on the big goal, as you can see by the atomically-precise nanosystems artwork at upper left on every page of the ASME Nanotechnology Institute.

Of course, for an intense intro or update on manufacturing with atomic precision, you’ll want to instead attend this fall’s Productive Nanosystems Conference, focused on the Technology Roadmap for Productive Nanosystems. Don’t miss this one! —Christine
