Foresight Institute and Foley & Lardner, Attorneys at Law, invite you to participate in the Nanotechnology Patent Roundtable to discuss the present status of nanotechnology patents and to discuss how to improve the nanotechnology patent process in the future. Senior U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) officials were invited and are expected to attend to explain how the USPTO currently handles nanotechnology patent applications and to gather suggestions from the Roundtable participants on how to improve the nanotechnology patent process.
The Roundtable will include audience interactive panel discussion led by senior U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) officials, nanotechnology industry leaders, and patent attorneys on how to improve the nanotechnology patent examination process. Specifically, the USPTO officials will describe the steps that the USPTO is taking to examine nanotechnology patent applications. The discussion will also include the possibility of creating a special classification for nanotechnology patent applications, a creation of a database of nanotechnology related prior art and a creation of a nanotechnology industry/USPTO partnership to provide training for patent examiners in the current topics in nanotechnology. The Roundtable will also include a discussion on how to protect and leverage nanotechnology inventions by members of Foley & Lardner's nanotechnology team. Audience participation, questions, and suggestions are encouraged during the Roundtable.
The Roundtable is designed for members of the nanotechnology community who are involved in patenting their nanotechnology inventions or who are interested in improving the nanotechnology patent process.
