The Foresight Institute Prize in Communication was awarded to Rocky Rawstern, nanotechnology editor of the widely read website, Nanotechnology Now. Rawstern provides a digital forum where accurate information about the transformative aspects of science, technology and engineering is available. Through this website, he has educated the public about the long-term benefits and concerns about nanotechnology.
Rocky Rawstern, second from the right, winner of the Foresight Institute Prize in Communication, is shown accepting his award along with Dr. Christian Schafmeister, left, winner of the Foresight Institute Feynman Prize for Experimental work, and Dr. Christian Joachim, second from the left, winner of the Foresight Institute Feynman Prize for Theory, and Christopher Levins, right, winner of the Foresight Distinguished Student Award. The winners of the 2005 Foresight Nanotech Institute Prizes were announced at the Feynman Award Banquet, held on Wednesday evening, October 26, 2005, at the 13th Conference on Advanced Nanotechnology.
This award recognizes outstanding journalistic or other communication endeavors that lead to a better public understanding of molecular nanotechnology or other key emerging technologies of high social or environmental impact.
By offering this Prize, Foresight hopes to encourage continued responsible coverage of molecular nanotechnology and other emerging technologies as a means for engaging the public in dialogue leading to improved public policy on these important issues.
Special thanks go to the law firm of Millstein & Taylor, PC, which underwrites the Prize, and to Foresight Senior Associate Larry Millstein of that firm, who initiated this program.
