Foresight Institute's goal is to guide emerging technologies to improve the human condition and the environment. These essays explore basic aspects of human nature and political economy that will impact how emerging technologies affect the societies into which they emerge.

   
To Economize On Love:
An Alternate Approach to Social Philosophy and Political Economy
David H. Miller
Argues that any rational organism will have some altruistic impulses, and that any decent society must make wise use of this limited resource. The essay concludes: "It is altruism in the broad sense which can make possible a society in which people are free to peacefully pursue their own business. And it is a society in which people are free to pursue their own business which enables them to concentrate their altruistic motives in the areas in which love is really needed."
