Privacy Preserving Contact Tracing for COVID-19: contact tracing is one of the key tools public health agencies use for containing epidemics. In the case of COVID-19, many groups and governments are exploring the use of mobile apps to assist in this process of tracing potentially exposed individuals, to isolate and test them before they spread the virus further. This talk will address the complex technical, epidemiological and privacy questions that those projects are grappling with.
Peter Eckersley is a technology policy expert who works on AI ethics and safety, privacy, and computer security. He is the convener of stop-covid.tech, a Distinguished Technology Fellow at EFF, and until recently served as the Director of Research at the Partnership on AI. Projects he has co-founded include Let’s Encrypt (letsencrypt.org), Certbot (certbot.eff.org), SafeLife (https://partnershiponai.org/safelife), Privacy Badger (eff.org/pb), HTTPS Everywhere (eff.org/httpse).
