Foresight Institute – San Francisco, CA
- Location: San Francisco (in person)
- Starting date: ASAP
- Application deadline: 15 November
- Salary: $100,000–145,000 gross per year
About the Role
Foresight Institute seeks a Community Manager to build and run our AI community in San Francisco and to grow our global network of affiliated AI Nodes. You will report to our CEO, Allison Duettmann.
You will turn the SF plan into programs and events, support fellows and grantees working on open-source, local AI science and safety projects, and connect people, projects, and compute. The role suits someone who builds community, runs events end to end, and keeps budgets and processes in order.
What You’ll Do
Community & Culture
- Act as the go-to person for fellows, grantees, partners, and visiting community members in SF.
- Connect people and projects to start collaborations.
Events & Budget
- Manage the 2027 SF program plan and annual program budget.
- Plan and run in-person events: salons, sprints, lab tours, talks, and co-working days.
- Source venues through universities, labs, and hubs. Book speakers and handle logistics (AV, catering, RSVP/ticketing).
- Deliver events on schedule and on budget, with a strong attendee experience.
- Manage vendor contracts. Build processes and SOPs for the SF program.
Partnerships & Coordination
- Co-develop the annual SF plan and KPIs with the CEO, COO, Berlin Node Manager, and Grants Manager.
- Build relationships with funders, universities, labs, hubs, and foundations.
Grants Program & Compute
- Recruit, select, onboard, and support grantee projects with the CEO and Grants Manager.
- Plan 2–3 workshops per year, each followed by a one-month sprint.
- Connect grantees to mentors, resources, and compute. Capture their outputs (papers, code, demos).
- Onboard grantees and nodes to Foresight’s GPU and on-prem compute with our DevOps team.
Decentralized AI Nodes
- Grow a global network of affiliated AI Nodes, starting with Cape Town and expanding to cities such as Boston, Nairobi, Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Lisbon, and Athens.
- Run the application process: assess applicants on mission, compute, funding, team, legal entity, and local community; run calls and reference checks.
- Support each node: onboarding, compute access, monthly check-ins, annual impact reporting, and links to fellows, grantees, and other nodes.
Impact
- Track impact across the SF community, nodes, grantees, fellows, and events. Contribute to Foresight’s impact management.
What We’re Looking For

Experience: 3+ years in community building, program management, or event production.
Event delivery: Proven record of running in-person events end to end, on budget
Relationship builder: Outgoing, energizing, and comfortable with managing stakeholders like researchers, funders, universities, and labs
Organized: Manages budgets, contracts, and loves clear processes
