Gregg Wildenberg

Gregg Wildenberg is a Research Assistant Professor of Neurobiology at the University of Chicago, with a joint appointment at Argonne National Laboratory. His research focuses on connectomics, neural circuit development, and advanced imaging technologies for mapping the brain at nanoscale resolution.

He earned his B.S. in Biology from St. Norbert College and his Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University, where he conducted research under Professor Albert Reynolds.

His pioneering work combines molecular biology, genetics, electron microscopy, and computational imaging to investigate how neural circuits develop and function across different species. He has helped develop innovative brain-mapping technologies, including photoemission electron microscopy (PEEM), to enable faster and more detailed reconstruction of neural networks.

In 2025, he received the Society for Neuroscience’s Kristen Harris Bourne Prize for his contributions to connectomics and brain-mapping technologies.
