Chris Berg

Chris Berg is Professor of Economics at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia, and a leading expert on regulation, technological change, blockchain, civil liberties, and free markets.

He is the author of twelve books, including The New Technologies of Freedom, Understanding the Blockchain Economy, and The Libertarian Alternative, and has published more than 30 peer-reviewed papers. He co-founded the RMIT Blockchain Innovation Hub, the world’s first dedicated social science research centre focused on blockchain, and has advised governments, parliamentary inquiries, technology companies, and startups on emerging technologies, digital identity, artificial intelligence, and public policy.

Professor Berg is also an experienced public commentator, speaker, and policy advisor, with hundreds of talks delivered internationally and extensive contributions to major Australian and international media. He serves on the board of Shielded Labs, advises blockchain firm Agoric, and holds several academic and professional affiliations, including with University College London’s Centre for Blockchain Technologies and the Mont Pelerin Society. He holds a PhD in economics from RMIT University and has received multiple awards for research impact, including the RMIT Vice Chancellor’s Award for Research Impact.
