Masa Ishigami

I investigate properties of novel nanoscale materials using the state of the art scanning probe microscope, ultra high vacuum low temperature transport measurement system, quartz crystal microbalance. I have measured electronic, structural, and friction properties of materials such as graphene, 2D materials, carbon nanotubes, boron nitride nanotubes and fullerenes. These materials can be useful for sensors, flexible and transparent devices, and friction-reduction technologies. I am an expert in nanoscale device fabrication, ultra high vacuum construction techniques and analysis techniques (LEED and Auger), graphene and nanotube synthesis, and synthesis of nanoscale materials using organic chemistry, organic chemistry of air-sensitive materials.

I have published 62 peer-reviewed papers, which were cited over 10000 times with an h-index of 25. I also hold a patent on a photodetector technology based on graphene.

I have raised $2,400,000 from the National Science Foundation, Air Force Research Laboratory, the Intelligence Community, and start-up companies for my research. I have managed and advised research of 7 Ph.D., 2 masters, and 15 undergraduate students.
