Scoping Brain-Computer Interfaces for AI Safety
With Tom Burns
This talk explores the potential of brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) to enhance AI safety in the context of advanced general or superintelligent AI within a five-year horizon. I examine the technical and economic feasibility of using BCIs for real-time human oversight, faster intervention, and improved alignment. By leveraging recent advances in neural interfaces, this project aims to chart a roadmap for future research, highlighting how BCIs could strengthen human-AI collaboration and reduce the risks posed by misaligned AI in high-stakes scenarios.
