Nick Matthew

Nick, a born-and-raised Tar Heel, has been a venture investor since 2021. He’s worked with companies spanning emerging markets fintech, consumer, and enterprise SaaS. Before joining Standard in 2024, Nick invested at a specialist seed fund partnering with technical founders commercializing cryptography and blockchain infrastructure.

Before his investing career, Nick was a researcher at the UNC School of Medicine, where he explored applications of generative adversarial networks and deep reinforcement learning in population genetics. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from UNC with a degree in Mathematics. In his free time, Nick likes to read classic literature, explore new cities with his Fujifilm camera, and play low-stakes poker with his friends.
