Asvin G.

I am Asvin G (G = Gothandaraman). I work at Simplex, where I am developing mathematical frameworks for the new science emerging at the intersection of AI, cognition, philosophy, and biology. I am interested in intelligence, sentience, and consciousness, and I think machine learning phenomena offer a new research vector for approaching these questions. I was an Anthropic Fellow (Nov 2025 – March 2026), working on LLM interpretability.

In an earlier life I was a mathematician, working in number theory and algebraic geometry broadly construed: unlikely intersections, motivic/p-adic integration, the Grothendieck ring of varieties, moduli spaces, and arithmetic dynamics. I did my PhD at the University of Wisconsin-Madison under Jordan Ellenberg in 2023, and held positions with Ari Shnidman at Hebrew University of Jerusalem, at IPAM, at the University of Toronto with Jacob Tsimerman, and at the IAS, Princeton. Mathematics remains a living interest, and I still think and write about it below.
