Bruce Hope
Bruce Hope is a Senior Investigator at the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), where he leads research on neuronal ensembles involved in drug addiction and relapse. He joined NIH in 1996 after holding research and academic positions at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Tufts University, and New England Medical Center.
He earned his B.Sc. in Biochemistry and Ph.D. in Neurological Research from the University of British Columbia, followed by postdoctoral training in molecular psychiatry at Yale University.
His pioneering research focuses on identifying the neural circuits and cellular mechanisms that encode drug-associated memories and trigger relapse. His team develops advanced genetic and molecular techniques to identify, isolate, and manipulate specific populations of neurons, contributing to a deeper understanding of addiction, learning, and memory.
