Burak Yaglioglu

I am a chief researcher employed by TUBITAK UZAY which is the Space Technologies Research Institute of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK).

I received my BSc from the Aerospace Engineering Department of the Middle East Technical University in 2008, where I also received my PhD in 2023.

After my bachelor’s degree, I participated in the Joint European Master Program in Space Science and Technology: SpaceMaster and received two M.Sc. degrees from the Lulea University of Technology, Sweden and Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg, Germany in 2011. During my M.Sc. education, I also had the chance to become a research student conducting master thesis study in the Intelligent Space Systems Laboratory at the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics of the University of Tokyo between February and August 2010.

So far, I have been involved in the design, development, testing and operations of several space systems for more than 10 years. These include the first micro satellite designed and built in Turkey, RASAT (launched in August, 2011) and a high resolution Earth Observation satellite GOKTURK-2 (launched in December 2012) which are both successful and currently operational in space.

I have contributed to the design and development of the first national GEO communications satellite TURKSAT 6A (to be launched in 2023) and high resolution Earth Observation satellite IMECE (to be launched in 2023) and coordinated the development of a multi-constellation GNSS receiver for LEO satellites.

Currently, I am leading the first Turkish Lunar Mission where we aim to reach to polar orbit and then to the surface of the Moon.
