David Sussillo
David Sussillo is an Adjunct Professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University and a computational neuroscientist specializing in artificial intelligence and brain–computer interfaces. Previously, he was a Senior Staff Research Scientist at Meta Reality Labs and a Senior Research Scientist at Google Brain.
He earned his B.S. from Carnegie Mellon University and his Ph.D. in Computational Neuroscience from Columbia University, where he studied under Larry Abbott. He subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at Stanford University under Krishna Shenoy.
His pioneering research focuses on neural computation, recurrent neural networks, dynamical systems, and brain–machine interfaces. His work has advanced methods for understanding neural activity and developing technologies that translate neural and muscular signals into computer commands. He is also a recipient of a Fulbright research grant and the author of Emergence: A Memoir of Boyhood, Computation, and the Mysteries of Mind.
