Haleh Fotowat
Haleh Fotowat is a Senior Scientist II at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University, where she conducts research in neuroscience, neuroengineering, and biohybrid robotics. Previously, she held postdoctoral research positions at McGill University, the University of Ottawa, and Harvard University.
She earned her B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology in 1999, her M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Houston in 2002, and her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Baylor College of Medicine in 2010.
Her research focuses on understanding how neural circuits control behavior and developing biological robots equipped with functional nervous systems. She has pioneered wireless neural recording techniques in freely moving insects and swimming fish, and her current work explores novel anesthetics, biological intelligence, and the engineering of autonomous living systems.
