Maria Avramidou

Maria Avramidou is an independent researcher working on AI consciousness, AI safety, and the long-term implications of advanced artificial intelligence. She also serves as a scientific grants advisor for the Foresight Institute and as a course facilitator for BlueDot Impact.

Previously, she was a research affiliate at Oxford’s Global Priorities Institute, a research assistant at Google DeepMind working on AI consciousness, and a winter fellow at the Centre for the Governance of AI, where she studied loss-of-control risk management. Her broader work spans philosophy of mind, computational models of consciousness, AI governance, and emerging technologies.

Avramidou studied physics at University College London, mathematics at the University of Cambridge, and philosophy at the University of Oxford. Her UCL record also confirms her background in theoretical physics and First-Class Honours.
