Philip Sabes

Philip Sabes is a neuroscientist, neurotechnology entrepreneur, and CEO of Arbor Neuroscience. He is Professor Emeritus of Physiology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where he led research on sensorimotor integration, neural computation, and brain–computer interfaces.

He earned his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), specializing in machine learning and human motor control, and completed postdoctoral research in neurophysiology at Caltech and the Salk Institute. He joined UCSF in 2000 and left his full-time academic position in 2017 to co-found Neuralink. He later co-founded Starfish Neuroscience and Integral Neurotechnologies.

His pioneering research focuses on understanding how the brain integrates sensory information to control movement and developing advanced neural interfaces to restore or improve neurological function. His contributions include scalable brain–computer interfaces, artificial sensory feedback, and innovative technologies for recording and stimulating neural activity.
