Core Segment from Pump Designed to be Selective for Neon AtomsThe device pictured above is the core segment from a pump designed by Dr. K. Eric Drexler to have some selectivity for pumping neon atoms. More information about this design is available at the Web site of the Institute for Molecular Manufacturing, which supported Dr. Drexler's work. Another example of diamondoid molecular machinery designed by Dr. Drexler is a fine-motion controller for molecular assembly. For an enhanced image of this pump, done by the NAS Computational Nanotechnology Group, see under "Pump" at http://science.nas.nasa.gov/Groups/Nanotechnology/gallery/
