Two Idea Future claims on the Foresight server were created that concerned developments in building computational elements using "protein synthesis techniques". The claims prfs15 and prad15 require respectively that certain sizes of binary adder and finite state machine be built using "protein synthesis techniques". I'd appreciate it if any of you who are experts would either tell me that those are well-defined terms, or would suggest an alternative wording that fits the spirit of the existing wording but is well-defined.
The criteria I like to use for deciding that a claim's wording is clear enough is that it seems likely that people on both sides of the issue at the time that the claim is due to be decided will agree on what the terms mean. They may disagree on whether anyone could have or did perform the deed, but given the description of an event, they would mostly agree on whether it satisfies the claim's description.
The heart of the two claims were these statements:
prad15 | By 2015, someone will have used protein synthesis techniques to build a million copies of an 8 bit binary adder. |
---|---|
prfs15 | By 2015, someone will have used protein synthesis techniques to build a million marginally reliable copies of a 256 state finite state machine. This is intended to be a hobbyist version of claim prad15. |
One of these is currently trading. Both were intended to be on-hold until this issue was resolved. As soon as we can get them both clarified, we'll ensure that trading is enabled in both.
