Abstract:

The struggle between the 'good' and the 'bad' information (code and data) for the Internet resources seems to be as natural as the struggle between the predators and the prey in the ecosphere. At any given moment, the 'infosphere' – the virtual space where the security programs, the attacking programs and the application programs coexist – is in the balance not unlike the ecological balance in the ecosphere. In fact, the very notions of 'good' and 'bad' information are anthropocentric and exist only from the human standpoint, being defined by the observer's system of beliefs.

The infobalance characteristics are determined by the collective efforts of the humans that ultimately control it, and the Internet growth gradually makes this control less direct, eventually leading to the decentralized homeostasis control system similar to the immune system, so the decentralized infinitely scalable Gnutella-type protocols are essential for the Intenet growth as the distributed immune information transport channels.

The distributed control approach to infobalance becomes especially important with the introduction of the molecular nanomachines. In order to be prepared to it, the Internet can be used as the infobalance research instrument and as a prototype of the future Nanonet, 'growing' it in an evolutionary way.

Since the number of people trying to destroy the Internet is much less than the number of people trying to maintain the homeostasis, it can be expected that the infosphere balance will remain stable and tilted towards the 'good' information during the transition from the Internet to the Nanonet.
