The Foresight Sanity Preserver goes into the second phase of experimentation: Our hope is to create a global community around positive futures from COVID-19 and beyond.Ā
So far, we experimented with meeting twice a day to see how much interest from Europe, Asia, Africa and South America there is. A lot, it turns out!
Starting today, April 1, we’re experimenting with having one salon a day, either 9 am or 6 pm PT.Ā
The goal is to find a sustainable pattern that we can keep goingĀ – hopefully much beyond the current crisis –Ā to birthĀ a permanentĀ point for connection for future-minded people across the world.

We are thrilled to have Patri Friedman for an introduction to Charter Cities and why they can be a solution to addressing future pandemics. When institutions are outmoded, corrupted, or failing, the result is untold human suffering. Workers are trapped in low wage jobs and dangerous working environments, children donāt get educated, adults canāt get quality healthcare, and people canāt start businesses to support their families. Yet, upgrading national institutions is notoriously difficult, and consensus on country-level changes should be slow and deliberate.
Patri Friedman worked at Google as an engineer from 2004-2008 and 2013-2019. In 2008 he founded theĀ Seasteading InstituteĀ with seed funding from Peter Thiel, and in 2009 startedĀ Ephemerisle, the largest self-organizing festival on water. Patri is on the board of theĀ Startup Societies Foundation, ran the angel fundĀ Zarco Investment Group, and advises a variety of new governance projects.
