Summary:
Adam Marblestone, CEO of Convergent Research, spoke about the importance of design tools to the nanotech research and development process. Design tools are necessary to envision what could be built and lower the barrier to entry to get involved in nanotechnology. He believes multiple fields are design tool limited, but that over the past decade we have been making progress on things like DNA and protein design. The design process is complex but he hopes that this workshop could help shed light on how to tackle some longstanding issues.
