One Emmy went to the groundbreaking new television program called Matter and Beyond which explores the ethical and spiritual dimensions of science and technology which won in the category of health and science for its episode devoted to artificial intelligence.

Matter & Beyond features interviews with some of the most fascinating thinkers on the planet today, and explores provocative subjects that include: sound and healing, spiritual capital, spirituality and ecology, the limits of knowledge, transformation of consciousness, bio-ethics, cosmology, astronomy, and much more.

The Matter and Beyond program that took the Emmy is titled: In Our Image and Likeness: exploring the quest to create human-like intelligence and beings. The 26-minute program asks: When does a mere machine become a morally responsible entity? What are the problems that could arise from intelligent machines with super human capabilities?

For decades science fiction writers have been intrigued with the idea of creating intelligent machines with physical and mental capabilities far superior to those of human beings. Some leading thinkers predict that human-like robots with intelligence that will be indistinguishable from human beings will be a reality by 2030 to 2040. But how will this impact opportunities and the quality of life for human beings? How will it impact our culture? What ethical questions arise?

Featured in this program are leading thinkers: Dr. Josh Storrs Hall Ph.D., author of: Beyond AI: Creating the Conscience of the Machine; Paul Davies, a theoretical physicist, and cosmologist, and the Director of BEYOND; and Dr. Bill Hibbard, author of Super-Intelligent Machines.

Other Matter and Beyond topics include: exploring the mysteries of consciousness, music and healing, the biology of love, transhumanism, ecology and spirituality, quantum mechanics, cosmology, prayer and healing, and the transformation of consciousness.
