Enough with the nanoparticles already — we want molecular nanosystems. Los Angeles will be the place to be this January when two powerhouse academic institutions come together to push forward toward this goal. Here’s the scoop, in full, as received by email:
California NanoSystems Institute and
Kyushu University Global COE
Present
Joint Symposium on Molecular NanosystemsJanuary 29 – 30, 2008
The Auditorium of
California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI)
University of California, Los AngelesSymposium Themes:
Molecular Informatics
Molecular System Creation
Energy and Material Conversion
BioMolecular SystemsFeatured speakers:
Prof. Seiji Shinkai, Graduate School of Engineering, Kyushu University, and
Prof. Leonard Rome, Interim Director, CNSI, and Senior Associate Dean for Research, UCLA Geffen School of Medicine.Special Panel Discussion:
“Building University / Industry Collaborations in the United States and Japan”Rapid progress in the field of “molecular assembly systems” and “supramolecular chemistry” has provided an opportunity to design and synthesize special “molecular assemblies” with ordered structures and functions. This symposium will focus on the current status of work in molecular materials and nano-systems and the prospects for future research. Participants will be researchers from the California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) at UCLA and from the Global COE at Kyushu University drawn from multiple disciplines including biology, medicine, chemistry and bioengineering.
Poster sessions with oral descriptions will be given by PhD students from both institutions.
The Symposium will conclude with a special panel discussion on the challenges of creating research collaborations between universities and corporations
I would like to list a web page for this event, but there doesn’t appear to be one yet. If you’d like to get these emails, here’s the list they used: http://lists.ucla.edu/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/cnsi.microrheology
If you’d like to help Foresight keep you informed for 2008, here’s the way to do that, ideally by December 31:
