As you can see, we’re in the process of upgrading nanodot (and the main website will follow). Please bear with us while we work the kinks out.
We hope you find Nanodot useful all year long. Now we need some assistance from our loyal readers: we have a Challenge Grant going, with every dollar you donate being matched one-for-one up to US$40K. But as of today we’re only about a quarter of the way to our goal. You can track our progress… Continue reading Keep Nanodot going for 2008: Help with Challenge Grant by Dec. 31

Foresight CIO Ben Harper writes:
"After a long week of work, nanodot is back up and running! During our major upgrade/maintenence on August 12th, we ran into some hardware issues which forced us to lengthen our downtime unexpectedly. We've since corrected those hardware issues, and have gotten nanodot back up on a more stable, extensable, and solid infastructure running BSD and Slash 2.0.
I want to appoligize to everyone for our downtime, as well as for the inconvenience this has casued. I can assure you that we'll do everything we can to significantly shorten subsequent maintenence and downtime on the site in the future.
Please feel free to email me anytime at [email protected] to let me know of any issues, comments or questions that you have regarding Nanodot.org.
Thanks for reading!

Foresight CIO Ben Harper and I have finished the long-awaited upgrade of Nanodot to the FreeBSD operating system and Version 2.0 of the Slash weblog software. In the course of the upgrade, we uncovered and corrected a hardware problem that was responsible for several crashes of Nanodot in the preceding weeks.
Ben has commendably corrected the Sendmail malconfig Nanodot had been suffering (by replacing Sendmail with Postfix)… so if you signed up for a Nanodot account and never received your password, you can now use the "Mail Password" facility to get the system to resend your password. (If you don't remember your Nanodot nickname, don't fret… we will do a mass-mailing to all Nanodot users, reminding them of their nicknames and passwords, shortly.)

As a side-effect of the relocation of the Nanodot server, the nightly and weekly headline mailings were being sent to nowhere. I recently became aware of the problem and fixed it, so you should be receiving these mailings much more regularly than previously.
